Composing

From the start of his music career, Gregor Schaefer has been composing and arranging for the groups he has been playing with. As a freelancer he also composes for other groups and special projects.

His compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded by:

  • Klezmer and Yiddish Song: Shtetl Band Amsterdam, Christian Dawid, Steven Greenman, Georg Brinkmann, Sanne Möricke, Vanessa Vromans, Di Fidl Kapelye, Mazzeltov (NL), Vasage Trio (Germany).
  • World Music: Csókolom, Soluna.
  • World-Classical Crossover: Boudewijn Zwart (carillon), Marien van Staalen Cello Quartet.
  • Jazz: Paul Stark Trio, Simon Rigter Quartet, Sanna van Vliet Quartet, Jacco Griekspoor Quartet.
  • Gipsy Jazz / Jazz Manouche / Hot Club Swing: Tolga Emilio During, Centre Ville.

Book with klezmer compositions

Over the years, Gregor has written quite a few neo-trad klezmer tunes. These have been collected and published in the book 'Village Dance', 15 klezmer compositions.
The book is now available worldwide, for C, B-flat or bass clef instruments.
